چکیده

The paper deals with a transfer line optimal desing. In contrast to the known assembly line balancing problem, for considered transfer lines, operations are grouped into blocks of parallel operations. Each block is executed by one spindle head. Spindle heads allocated to each station can be activated both sequentially and simultaneously, i.e. in a mixed order. The set of all available spindle heads is given beforehand. In addition to the standard line balancing problem, precedence and cycle time constraints, blocks compatibility and parallelism constraints are taken into account. The objective function is defined by the sum of blocks costs and stations costs. The problem is to assign all operations grouped into blocks that all constraints are respected and line investment cost is minimum. This paper is focused on solving the problem by a branchand-bound algorithm. A new approach for obtaining a lower bound is offered. It is based on a reduction of the transfer line balancing problem to a set partitioning problem. Computational experiments show that the proposed approach is efficient to solve practical transfer line desing problems.

A Hybrid Unconscious Search Algorithm for Mixed-model Assembly Line Balancing Problem with SDST, Parallel Workstation and Learning Effect

Due to the variety of products, simultaneous production of different models has an important role in production systems. Moreover, considering the realistic constraints in designing production lines attracted a lot of attentions in recent researches. Since the assembly line balancing problem is NP-hard, efficient methods are needed to solve this kind of problems. In this study, a new hybrid met...

‘BALANCING AND SEQUENCING’ VERSUS ‘ONLY BALANCING’ IN MIXED MODEL U-LINE ASSEMBLY SYSTEMS: AN ECONOMIC ANALYSIS

With the growth in customers’ demand diversification, mixed-model U-lines (MMUL) have acquired increasing importance in the area of assembly systems. There are generally two different approaches in the literature for balancing such systems. Some researchers believe that since the types of models can be very diverse, a balancing approach without simultaneously sequencing of models will not yield...

Mixed-Model Assembly Line Balancing with Considering Reliability

This paper presents a multi-objective simulated annealing algorithm for the mixed-model assembly line balancing with stochastic processing times. Since, the stochastic task times may have effects on the bottlenecks of a system, maximizing the weighted line efficiency (equivalent to the minimizing the number of station), minimizing the weighted smoothness index and maximizing the system reliabil...

Simultaneous Multi-Skilled Worker Assignment and Mixed-Model Two-Sided Assembly Line Balancing

This paper addresses a multi-objective mathematical model for the mixed-model two-sided assembly line balancing and worker assignment with different skills. In this problem, the operation time of each task is dependent on the skill of the worker. The following objective functions are considered in the mathematical model: (1) minimizing the number of mated-stations (2), minimizing the number of ...

Productivity Improvement through Line Balancing by Using Simulation Modeling

The typical problems facing garment manufacturers are long production lead time, bottlenecking, and low productivity. The most critical phase of garment manufacturing is the sewing phase, as it generally involves a number of operations or for the simple reason that it’s labor intensive. In assembly line balancing, allocation of jobs to machines is based on the objective of minimizing the workfl...
